Amber Kinetics, the designer and manufacturer of innovative, cost-effective flywheel energy storage solutions, announced it has expanded its senior executive team and appointed Wei-Tai Kwok as its chief operating officer effective March 1. Kwok will report to Ed Chiao, CEO and Co-Founder, and will have oversight over the company’s operations, including establishing  its first production-scale manufacturing plant.

Most recently, Kwok was COO of Andalay Solar, a designer, manufacturer and installer of residential solar systems. He previously served as VP Operations in the residential solar division of NRG Energy, the leading U.S. independent power producer.  From 2009-2012, Kwok was VP Marketing at Suntech Power. During his tenure, the company became the  #1 solar panel manufacturer and one of the world’s most recognized solar brand names. He also had operational responsibilities for the set-up and launch of Suntech’s first U.S. factory, a 60MW module assembly facility in Goodyear, AZ. Prior to Suntech, Wei-Tai spent 17 years in general management as a marketing executive. Kwok is a graduate of Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science.
